Overview: BumpyGoat is a UK-based used car marketplace designed to simplify the search process by focusing on city-level listings. Instead of overwhelming users with nationwide results, the platform allows buyers to explore vehicles available in specific areas such as Aberdeen, Glasgow, or Inverness, making the experience more relevant and practical.
Challenges: One of the main challenges was building a scalable system capable of aggregating vehicle listings from multiple sources while maintaining data quality and consistency.
Additionally, we needed to structure the platform in a way that supports SEO-driven growth, targeting long-tail queries like “used cars in Aberdeen” or specific make and model searches within a location.
Another key challenge was helping users quickly identify which listings are actually worth considering, especially when browsing large volumes of similar vehicles.
Solutions: We developed a custom data pipeline that automatically discovers, processes, and imports vehicle listings from external sources. This includes intelligent filtering to remove low-quality or duplicate entries, as well as automated image processing and optimization.
To improve decision-making, we introduced a vehicle scoring system powered by AI, which evaluates listings based on factors such as price positioning, vehicle condition indicators, completeness of data, and overall listing quality. This helps users quickly identify better-value vehicles without manually comparing dozens of listings.
From a frontend perspective, the platform was designed with a clean, intuitive interface, allowing users to easily browse vehicles by city, brand, and model.
We also implemented a modular SEO structure, generating optimized landing pages for cities, brands, and models to improve organic visibility.
Performance was addressed through image optimization, lazy loading, and scalable storage solutions, ensuring fast load times even with image-heavy listings.
